Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions, answered
Everything you need to know before scheduling — telehealth, insurance, prescriptions, and what to expect.
How does telehealth psychiatry work?
Every Stillwell Psychiatry appointment happens over secure, HIPAA-compliant video — no clinic visits, no waiting rooms. After you book, you'll get a video link by email along with a brief intake form to fill out beforehand.
On the day of, all you need is a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and a private space. Your provider meets with you the same way they would in person — listening carefully, evaluating, and adjusting your care over time.
What insurance do you accept?
Stillwell Psychiatry is in-network with all major insurance carriers — Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare — plus more than 200 additional plans through Zocdoc.
If you don't see your plan listed, you can verify coverage during booking on Zocdoc, or contact us and we'll look it up for you. We'll also tell you your expected copay before your visit so there are no surprises.
Why do you book appointments through Zocdoc?
Zocdoc handles the parts of scheduling that patients tend to find tedious — verifying insurance, finding open times, sending reminders, and rescheduling — so we can focus on care instead of paperwork.
It's free for patients, every review on a Zocdoc profile comes from a verified patient (not an anonymous internet reviewer), and you can book or reschedule yourself any time, day or night.
Can you prescribe medication during a telehealth appointment?
Yes. We can prescribe most medications used in adult psychiatric care — including antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, mood stabilizers, sleep aids, and treatments for ADHD. Prescriptions are sent electronically to your pharmacy of choice.
A few controlled substances carry additional federal and Florida state requirements that may involve identity verification or periodic in-person follow-up. If any of that applies to your treatment plan, your provider will walk you through exactly what you need.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your initial evaluation runs about 60 minutes. You'll talk through your history, current symptoms, what has and hasn't worked in the past, and what you're hoping to get out of treatment.
Together you and your provider build a plan — that may include medication, a therapy referral, lifestyle adjustments, or a combination. Follow-up visits are shorter (around 25–30 minutes) and focus on how things are going and what to adjust.
Is telehealth psychiatry right for me?
Telehealth works well for most adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood concerns, sleep issues, and stress-related conditions. It's especially good if you have a busy schedule, live far from a clinic, or simply feel more comfortable talking from home.
If you're in active crisis, need a higher level of care, or have specialized needs better served in person, your provider will help direct you to the right resource — local in-person care, a hospital, or another specialist.
